Since 1970, the National Capitol Christmas Tree, or “Peoples Tree” has been selected from a National Forest. For 2017, this honor went to Montana’s Kootenai Forest, where the 79-foot Engelmann spruce was harvested and transported for display in front of the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.

After the December 6 lighting ceremonies, the Montana Congressional Delegation, hosted a reception at the National Botanical Garden.
Contributing to the celebration were a cross-section of MTGWA member wineries:

• Hidden Legend, Victor
• Montana Cider Works, Darby
• Ten Spoon Winery, Missoula
• Tongue River Winery, Miles City
• Yellowstone Cellars, Billings
